Delores M. Andy, a native Philadelphian, is a sport and recreation management professor in the Temple University School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. She is the former Philadelphia Commissioner of Recreation, serving during the W. Wilson Goode administration. During her administration, she was responsible for managing the Dell East Concert Arena, summer day and specialty camps, the Sports Complex, including Veteran's Stadium, 5 older adult centers, 5 ice skating rinks, 75 swimming pools, Old Forte Mifflin, and over 200 recreation and community centers, tot lots, parks, ball fields and 1500 full, part-time and seasonal employees, with an operating and capital budget of $70,000,000. She served on the boards of the Police Athletic League, Fairmount Park Commission, Philadelphia Sports Congress and the Afro-American Historical and Culture Museum. Her department managed and supported the Mummer's Day Parade, the Broad Street Run, the Philadelphia Army-Navy Football Classic and the Philadelphia Senior Games.
Professor Andy's accomplishments include: Cheyney University Athletic Hall of Famer; Philadelphia Commission of Human Relations Human Rights Award Recipient; former Trustee of the National Recreation and Park Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Recreation and Park Administration. She is president of the Friends of Smith Memorial Playhouse and Playgrounds; correspondence secretary of the Green's Ladies Golf Club, Inc.; and member of the Nominating Committee of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Inc. She was awarded the 1999 Leon H. Sullivan Award for Service to the Community and the 1998 Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society's highest honor, the Fred Coombs Award, for outstanding and distinguished service to the profession. Her research interests include community development through recreation and programs and services for at-risk-youth.
