Dr. Karla A. Henderson
is Professor in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management at
North Carolina State University. She has been on the faculty at University of
North Carolina-Chapel Hill, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Texas Woman's
University. She has given numerous presentations throughout North America,
Europe, Asia, and Australia. She publishes regularly in a variety of journals in
the field and has authored or co-authored several books including /Both Gains
and Gaps/ (with Bialeschki, Shaw, and Freysinger), /Dimensions of Choice/, and
/Evaluation of Leisure Service/s (with Bialeschki). Her professional service has
included president of SPRE, president of the AAHPERD Research Consortium, Board
of Directors of American Camp Association and National Recreation and Park
Association, co-editor of Leisure Sciences, and member of other editorial
boards. She has been the recipient of the JB Nash Scholar Award, the Julian
Smith Award, the NCRPA Fellow Award (highest award given), the ACA Honor Award,
and the NRPA Roosevelt Excellence in Research Award.
