Dianne Hoover is currently the Director of Recreation and Parks for the City of Bakersfield, California. Previously she was the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Also, Dianne was the Assistant Director for Cincinnati Recreation Commission, the Director of the City of Oakwood, Ohio Leisure Services, Department and Director of the City of Lima, Ohio; Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department. In addition, Dianne worked for Montgomery County, Ohio as the Recreation Supervisor for six years. Early in her career, she worked for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as a SCORP Planner and also as a Watercraft Officer on Lake Erie.
Dianne’s education background includes an MPA from the University of Dayton, Ohio; a Master’s in Parks and Recreation Administration from Western Illinois University where she was awarded the Most Outstanding Student in her class. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa in 1977.
Dianne is NRPA President-Elect during the 2009-2010 fiscal years, and is honored to serve as NRPA President in 2010-2011. As a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional for over thirty-two years, Dianne has served on various NRPA related committees and boards including NRPA Board of Trustees since 2002. She served as Chair of the Pacific Southwest Regional Council (2006-2007), President of the American Park and Recreation Society (APRS) 1999-2000, Chair of the Great Lakes Region from 1998-1999, and Vice-Chair of the Council on Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). She has served as the Great Lakes Regional representative on the Congress Planning Committee, 2001-2004. Prior to her focus on national committees, Dianne served in various offices with the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association, earning the Outstanding Professional Award in 2000. She has written various articles for NRPA magazine, “Keeping You Current” and for California and Ohio association publications.
Locally, Dianne became involved in various boards. These include Leadership Fort Wayne, the Philharmonic, Turnstone (for children and adults with disabilities), Tapestry (a Day for Women) and Rotary. In Cincinnati, she completed Leadership Cincinnati and served on the Girl Scout Board of Directors.
