Lowell M. Caneday, Ph.D. CPRP is Professor and Coordinator of Leisure
Studies, Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He has served as
Associate Dean of Undergraduate programs (1996-99); Director of Student Academic
Services (1998-99); Director of University Testing and Evaluation Services
(1998-99); and Professor and Director, School of Health, Physical Education and
Leisure (1992-96).
Lowell received is Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at LeTourneau College, Longview Texas (1970); his Master of Arts in Recreation and Park Administration from the University of Wyoming (1979); and his Doctor of Philosophy in Recreation, Park and Leisure Studies from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Lowell has served on the NRPA/AALR Council on Accreditation, Society of Park and Recreation Educator representative (1990-01) and as Chair (1996-00); Board of Directors, NRPA Citizen Board Member Section (1993-96); Southwest Regional Council Board, Oklahoma Recreation and Park Society Citizen/Board Member representative (1988-93) and (1995-97) and on the National Issues Action Committee (1993 and 1955-00); Oklahoma Recreation and Park Society (ORPS) Trustee (1999-02) and Professional Certification Board, Oklahoma (1994-present); Member of the Park Operations and Outdoor Recreation Committee, Stillwater Parks, Events and Recreation Advisory Board (1997-present); Member, Oklahoma State Parks Advisory Council, Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (1996-98); and Co-chair, Research Committee, White House Conference on Travel and Tourism (1995).
He has received the "Outstanding Faculty Member", School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure, Oklahoma State University (1982, 1984 and 1987); The "Distinguished Service Award", Oklahoma Recreation and Park Society (1996); "Fellow of the National Recreation and Park Association", Southwest Regional Council, NRPA (1997); and the "Fellow of the American Leisure Academy", American Association for Leisure and Recreation (1998).
