Kirk Kincannon

Kirk W. Kincannon is Acting County Executive of Fairfax County Virginia. Prior to his appointment as Acting County Executive in September of 2017, Kirk served as the Executive Director of the Fairfax County Park Authority. He has also served as Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Boulder, Colorado; Director and Deputy Director of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities for the City of Alexandria, Virginia; and Director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism for Wythe County, Virginia, as well as in earlier positions in Fairfax County and the Town of Herndon, Virginia. Kirk has led agencies to multiple national and state awards and recognition including: the Governor of Virginia’s Environmental Excellence Award, the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials Award for Environmental/Conservation, the National Recreation and Park Association's Barb King Environmental Stewardship Award and the National Recreation and Park Association's Excellence in Inclusion Award. Kirk has served on multiple boards and committees over the years related to economic development and tourism, the United Way of Wythe County, Radford University curriculum accreditation, University of Colorado, Boulder campus master plan, the National Recreation and Park Association State Affiliates Board, and Board President of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society. Kirk is well-known by his colleagues across the nation and region for his collaboration and leadership and his ability to engage with staff, colleagues, the community and elected leaders. Kirk is a Fellow of the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration and of the Urban Land Institute of the Washington DC region. He holds a BA in Recreation, Leisure Services, and Physical Education from Virginia Wesleyan College. [updated September 2017]
